Set up Kofax Transformation Modules services

The Kofax Transformation - Server and Knowledge Base Learning Server can run either as applications with a graphical user interface, or they can run in the background as Windows services. In either case, document processing such as classification, extraction, and folder processing for the Server is directed to a Windows service. By default, these services use the configured service account to log on to Kofax Capture. It is possible to force the log on to Kofax Capture to use the user account configured in the Service Configuration tool.

You typically run Kofax Transformation - Server as an application when setting up a project to check its functionality and display errors. For production, the best practice is to run Server as a service using the Kofax Transformation - Server Scheduler Service . To start Server as a service, make sure that the option to automatically start batch processing is selected for the Server Scheduler Service.

Initially the Server Scheduler Service and the Knowledge Base Learning Service are installed to run under the local system account. The initial startup type for the Server Scheduler Service is Automatic, for the Knowledge Base Learning Service it is Manual. By default, errors are logged in the default or system language. The Server Scheduler Service controls the batch processing, the extraction processes, the OCR processes, and starts batch processing automatically.

Important To process files from a network drive, make sure that the log on account for all used services, such as Server Scheduler Service and Knowledge Base Learning Service, is a user account with network access. To change the settings for the logon account, open the Windows services from the Administrative Tool – Services window.

Network access is also needed when projects are processed that use a remote fuzzy database search for a database that has automatic update configured and the corresponding source file is located on a network drive. If the service cannot access the network drive the fuzzy database cannot be updated, but no error message is displayed. That means that the database search is always performed on the existing unchanged content.

Important Be sure that the log on account used to run the services has full Windows administrative privileges for the local system.
