Test Locators

Each type of locator has the ability to test its extraction configuration using a temporary document set that contains a handful of documents, or a proper testing document set that contains several documents for each class in the project. This means that you do not need to wait until you have assigned a locator result to a field before seeing the results of the locator. You can modify and refine a locator within its properties window until it behaves as needed.

To test a locator, select a document from the Documents window and with the locator Properties window open, click Test at the bottom of the window. The Test Results tab is automatically displayed and the results of the locator test are displayed in the Detected Alternatives pane. If you open a test document by double-clicking it in the Documents window, the document is displayed in the Document Viewer and the results are highlighted on the document.

Tip You can easily test the locator settings on various documents by using the shortcut keys F11 and F12 to navigate to the next or previous document.

Some locator methods, especially evaluators such as Advanced Evaluator or Line Item Matching Locator, use results from one or more input locators to process their alternatives. For those locator methods, an advanced Test button is provided that enables the selection of different kinds of test execution modes:

Run Only <LocatorName> Run Only Current Locator icon

Processes alternatives only for the current locator settings and not those from the dependent input locators.

Run All Dependent Locators and Evaluators Run All Dependent Locators and Evaluators icon

Processes the input locator results for the current locators and evaluators and their dependent locators recursively.

Important Any Script Locator dependencies cannot be run at this point because those dependencies are unknown in the test environment.
Run All Previous Locators and Evaluators Run All Previous Locators and Evaluators icon

Processes the results of the current locator as well as all locators and evaluators that are defined before this locator.

When you open the locator properties or select a different test document, the test execution mode is automatically set to Run All Dependent Locators and Evaluators Run All Dependent Locators and Evaluators icon. You can change test execution mode.

Once you have executed testing for the test execution mode, Run All Dependent Locators and Evaluators or Run All Previous Locators and Evaluators. The Test button is set to Run Only <LocatorName> as default.

Each of the following locators has specific testing functionality on their Test Results tab:
