Discover computers

The easiest way to set up computers is, to have the Server Monitor find them for you. You can use the Discover function by selecting

Computer > Discover

from the menu, clicking the Discover button on the toolbar, or using the popup menu on the FraudOne object on top of the managed objects tree and selecting Discover.

The Discover window will pop up and the searching process will start. Your monitor will search for computers running the Server Manager. It does this by sending a broadcast to the UDP port specified in its configuration. All Server Managers which receive the broadcast will respond and be reported in the list.

You can then select the computer(s) you want to monitor from the list and press OK. Those computers and the servers running on them will be added to the managed objects tree. You don’t have to wait for the discover process to complete to do your selection.

By this method you can find Server Managers that use the same port number as the Server Monitor on your local network. Broadcasts usually won’t propagate across a router, so you’ll not find computers residing on other networks. You can add those by hand (see Add computers), or use an alternative discover method, searching for individual computers by specifying a range of IP addresses. This option has to be configured in your properties file (see Configuring the Server Monitor).
