Generating CA Certificate using IP Address

If you have a working DNS configured on the Brother Web Admin page, you can enter the hostname to the DWS Server Address when creating Application in the DRS configurations. Then the CA Certificate is automatically generated using the hostname.

However, if you do not have a working DNS, an IP Address should be entered in the DWS Server Address so the CA Certificate can be generated using this IP. In order to use DWS IP Address, do the followings:

  1. Stop the DWS Service.

  2. Open the Conf folder from this path: C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\Nuance\Integrated\DWS\webserver\conf.

  3. Delete the current certificate and key store files (if any) in the Conf folder including dws-root-ca.der, dws-server-key.jks and dws-signed-server-key.jks.

  4. Edit the DWSSettings.properties file:

    • Add line dwsGenerateIPAddressSubjectCA=true to the file.

    • Set dwsServerCanonicalHostName=[DWS_IP_address]. You can skip this if Manual Device Configuration is set to True in the DRS configurations.

  5. Restart the DWS service.

If IP Address is used to generate CA Certificate, after the client is uninstalled, the CA Certificate is not deleted on the device.
