ScanAhead

Scanners connected using an ISIS interface tend to continue scanning even after they have received a signal to stop. For example, if you are scanning a batch, and you put more than one batch in the scanner, the scanner scans a few extra pages after a batch is complete. That is fine if you want to continue the next batch right away; the extra pages are added to the next batch. However, it can be a problem if at that point you want to click Stop in the Operator control dialog.

In other words, the scanner often has images stored in its internal buffer that Kofax ReadSoft Invoices has not yet received. In the worst case, some scanners do not stop until their internal buffer is full.

This behavior, known as ScanAhead, allows scanning at high speeds. The result is that you have less control over the scanner from Kofax ReadSoft Invoices.

If ScanAhead causes problems, deselect ScanAhead in the ISIS scanner settings dialog. This causes Kofax ReadSoft Invoices to request one page at a time. This can cause your scanner to lose speed.

If ScanAhead continues after you change the setting, it is caused by the scanner itself.
