Use redaction codes

You can set predefined redaction codes, similar to custom text, to appear over your redaction areas. These codes often indicate why the material was redacted. Code sets and entries are provided from the U.S. FOIA (Freedom Of Information Act) and the U.S. Privacy Act. Redaction codes can be saved, imported, and exported.

To use redaction code sets and entries follow the steps below.

  1. Redaction Properties icon Select Security > Redaction > Redaction Properties.
  2. In the Display tab of the Redaction Tool Properties dialog box, select Use Overlay Text.
  3. Click Edit to modify text attributes in the Font Editor dialog box and click OK.
  4. Select Redaction Code and select from existing Code Sets and Code Entries, or click Edit to modify them, create new ones, or import other ones from different locations. The appearance of the currently selected code entry is shown in the Preview area.
  5. In the Redaction Code Editor dialog box:
    • Add icon Add a new item to the Code Sets or Entries list.

    • Delete icon Delete a code set or a code entry.

    • Rename icon Rename a selected code set or entry.

Tip
  • To create or delete a code entry, you have to select the code set that contains it. Repeat the above step to add/delete/rename more code sets or entries.

  • You can Export newly created or modified code sets and/or code entries one by one, to be used for other purposes.
