About Kofax PDF tabs in integrated applications

Kofax Power PDF offers its core features in several Microsoft Office and Browser applications.

Overview of toolbar buttons in integrated applications

To use a PDF toolbar in other applications, Kofax Power PDF should be integrated in these applications. You can enable or disable the integration during a Custom Setup.

If you do not see these buttons in the tab of an integrated application, see Troubleshooting.

Kofax PDF tab options in Microsoft Office

The Kofax PDF tab offers tools for PDF creation and unlocking (conversion). The three Create buttons correspond to the Kofax PDF menu items.

In Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, there is no Convert Settings tool, since these programs accept Standard document processing only.

The Kofax PDF tab in Microsoft Outlook includes the following tools.

Icon Description

PDF Convert icon
Convert PDF: Starts a conversion of PDF or XPS attachments with the settings specified in the PDF Conversion settings tab on the Settings dialog box.

Archive folder icon
Archive folder: Archive the currently selected mail folder in the main window to a set of PDF files. This tool is available only in the Outlook main window. See About archiving.

Archive mail icon
Archive mail: Archive the currently selected items to a set of PDF files. See About archiving.

Create PDF from attachments
Create PDF from attachments: Create PDF files from attachments of supported file types. This tool is available in the Outlook main window toolbar only, becomes active only if the current message has at least one attachment of a file type suitable for conversion to PDF. See Creating PDF files from mail attachments.

Attach file to mail as PDF
Attach file to mail as PDF: Convert a local file to PDF and attach it to an outgoing mail or reply. You must select a mail message to use this option.

About Create buttons

PDF Create icon Create a PDF file from the currently opened document, web page or mail attachments.

Create PDF and e-mail icon Create and save a PDF from any source except a mail system and attach a copy to a new e-mail message ready for sending.

About Convert buttons

PDF Convert icon Use the Open PDF/XPS tool to select a single PDF or XPS file to be converted and opened in the current application, ready for editing.

Settings icon Access conversion settings to select a preferred conversion mode in Word (direct conversion as Standard, Form or Legal, or use Convert Assistant). In Excel and PowerPoint there is no choice: the mode is always a direct conversion as Spreadsheet and Standard Document, respectively.

Tip
  • To access the PDF Create Properties dialog box in Word, select File > Print, then the Kofax PDF printer driver and click the Properties button.

  • In Excel, to create a PDF file from the whole workbook, enable the toggle Create PDF from Entire Workbook in the Kofax PDF menu.

Power PDF drop-down list in Internet browsers

Kofax Power PDF offers the following tools on the Power PDF toolbar in supported Internet browsers. Click the arrow right to the PDF Create icon icon (Internet Explorer), or click the icon (other browsers) to open the menu.

In Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, you can right-click a link to a PDF or XPS file and select PDF Convert from the shortcut menu to convert it to an editable format. The menu item is available for all browser links, but functions only when it points to a PDF or XPS file.
