The Markup tool appears at Comment > Annotate > Active Markup.
This is a multi-purpose tool that lets you indicate places where you suggest text should be deleted, inserted or replaced.
It has a drop-down list:
Text Markup tool
Insert text at cursor
Replace selected text
Add note to selected text
Highlight selected text
Underline selected text
Cross out text for deletion
Use the Select tool at the top of the Panel bar to first select text for commands needing a selection.
The Text Markup Tool is in the Comment ribbon drop-down list only. The others can also be accessed from the shortcut menu on the text selection.
To suggest text changes with the Text Markup Tool
Click the Active Markup tool in the Comment ribbon, then choose Text Markup Tool in the drop-down list.
To cross out text, select it and press Delete.
To add text, place the cursor at the desired location and enter the new text.
To replace text, select the text to be removed and enter the replacement text.
The changes are shown like this:
One word in the title is marked for deletion. In the next line, text is inserted and replaced. Right-click on a marking and select Properties to change the marking color and other properties. You can resize the text boxes and close them. In that case, hover the cursor over a change to see the suggested new text in a popup display:

Select the desired markup tool from the Active Markup drop-down menu or from the Select Text shortcut menu.
To mark up searched strings
An efficient way to mark up certain words or phases in a longer document is to do this by searching
The Search and Markup tool is at Comment > Annotate. It calls the Search dialog box. Choose the search scope and enter one or more text strings to be searched, or search by patterns. You receive a list of occurrences; click an entry to view its location on the page. Choose which of them to mark and which marking to use: Highlight, Cross-out or Underline. Only one marking type can be chosen at a time; to apply a different marking to some occurrences, perform a new search.
See Annotation Effects for an overview of how these tools function.
To see how markings are affected when a document is flattened, see Flattening Documents.
