Ignore characters in a keyword or phrase

You can specify what characters the locator ignores when searching for the keywords. If the locator finds a string that matches your keyword, but the string contains an extra character, this option enables you ignore that character so it does not affect your results.

The default characters signify the most commonly ignored characters. For example, colons (:) and semi-colons (;) are commonly found on documents at the end of a name such as Address:. Since these characters are ignored, a keyword for Address is not excluded from the results or given a lower level of confidence because of the extra character. You can ignore characters in a keyword of phrase by following these steps:

  1. Open the locator properties.
  2. On the Evaluation Settings tab, modify the list by typing additional characters into the Ignore these characters field.
  3. Open a test document and click Test to test your settings.
  4. Optionally, click Close to close the locator properties window.
  5. Save the changes to your project.
