How to duplicate zones

Creating zones can be time consuming, so if you have similar pages in a document that require the same zones, you can create the zones once and then duplicate them for use in another location in that document. Once the zones are copied to the clipboard, they can be pasted on any other page in the document that is open in the Document Viewer (Zone Mode) window. Once the copied zones are pasted, the Paste Zones button remains active so that you can paste several duplications of the original copied zones.

If you paste to the same page as the copied zones or paste your copied zones more than once, the pasted zones are offset by 1 cm to the right and below the original zone or the previous copied zone. Multiple copies of the same zones may overlap. The zone name is also duplicated but appended with a number to ensure that the zone names of the copied zones are unique.

Most other settings other than the physical coordinates of the original copied zone are retained by the pasted zones. This includes all of the General and Image Cleanup zone settings, as well as any OCR voting zones. All subfield mappings are copied and the relationship between the pasted zone and the pasted subfields is preserved. If you copy a zone that has one or more blank out regions defined, those regions are copied to the new zone but you may need to adjust the position of each Blank Out Region to match the position of the new zone.

You cannot copy Anchor Zones, but if you are copying a zone that has an anchor mapping, you can paste it on the same page so its anchor mapping is retained. If you paste that zone to another page, this anchor mapping is not retained.

You can copy and paste one or more zones by following these steps:

  1. Open the locator properties.
  2. Open the reference document.

The Document Viewer (Zone Mode) window is displayed.

  3. On the Zone Viewer toolbar, click Selection Mode Selection Mode icon.
  4. On the toolbar, select the page containing the zone or zones that you are copying.
  5. Select one or more zones.

You can press and hold the Ctrl key and click to select multiple zones. Alternatively, you can lasso several zones with your mouse or press Ctrl + A to select all zones. Press Ctrl + click to deselect a selected zone.

  6. On the toolbar, click Copy Zones or press Ctrl + C.

The selected zones are copied to the clipboard.

  7. On the toolbar, select the page where you are pasting your copied zones.
  8. On the toolbar, click Paste Zones or press Ctrl + V.

The copied zones are pasted on the page in the Document Viewer (Zone Mode). The originally selected zones are deselected and the duplicate zones are selected. This enables you to move the duplicate zones without selecting them.

  9. Optionally, reposition the pasted zones so they are in the correct location.
  10. Review all settings for the duplicate zones to ensure that they are configured correctly for their new location.
  11. Open a test document and click Test to test your settings.
  12. Optionally, click Close to close the locator properties window.
  13. Save the changes to your project.
