Add image cleanup for a zone

Since recognition for a zone is executed within the confines of each zone, you can configure a unique image cleanup for each individual zone. If one zone has different requirements, you can have a different cleanup profile for each zone. You can create a local image cleanup profile for that zone or use a pre-configured global image cleanup profile.

For example, if one zone contains a set of boxes with hand written text in them, you can use the Remove Lines image cleanup method that removes horizontal and vertical lines. If another zone has hand written text or a stamp that overlaps the text you want in a zone, you can use theAdvanced Despeckle image cleanup method to remove the unwanted text.

You can apply an image cleanup profile to a zone by following these steps:

  1. Open the locator properties.
  2. Open the reference document.

The Document Viewer (Zone Mode) window is displayed.

  3. On the toolbar, click Selection Mode Selection Mode icon.
  4. Double-click on the zone you want to clean up.

The Zone Properties window is displayed.

  5. Click on the Image Cleanup tab.
  6. If you want to clean the zone based on background information, select Enable from the Image Cleanup group.
Important In order to use Image Cleanup based on background information, you must first configure background removal.
  7. Optionally, click Test beside the Enable option in the Image Cleanup group to verify that background removal helps to clean up your document.

This first Test button is available only when background removal data is available.

  8. In the locator properties window, click Test to see if background removal improves your extraction results.

If background removal is sufficient, you can stop here. If the results are not sufficient, continue with the following steps to add additional image cleanup profiles.

  9. To add an existing global image cleanup profile, select a profile from the list.

If there are no global image cleanup profiles, do one of the following:

  10. Optionally, click Test at the bottom of the Image Cleanup tab to view the results of your image cleanup profiles.

The image snippet at the top of the Properties window shows the results of the image cleanup profiles. Press Test again to see the original image.

  11. In the locator properties window, click Test to see if image cleanup improves your extraction results.

If necessary, add additional cleanup methods and continue testing until you get ideal results.

  12. Click Close to close the locator properties window.
  13. Save the changes to your project.
