Configure a PDF generation activity

Use the following procedure to configure a PDF generation activity.

  1. Add an activity to the map.

By default, the Configuration tab is open in the properties panel of the activity.

  2. Change the default Name of the activity to something meaningful.
  3. On the Type list, select Capture > PDF generation.
  4. On the Input document/folder list, select a document or folder variable to configure input for the PDF generation activity.
    • If you use a document variable, the defined PDF settings are reflected at runtime in the generated PDF.
    • If you use a folder variable, the defined PDF settings are reflected at runtime in the generated PDFs for all documents in the folder.
  5. On the PDF profile list, select a PDF generation profile. See Manage PDF generation profiles.
  6. Define the Title, Author, Subject and Keywords, used to create the original document using either option:
    • Document type: Sets the content to a value based on Document type fields. The fields must already be created in a Document type. See Add a document type.

    • Custom: Select a variable (process or server) or enter a static value.

  7. Select Merge page PDF data.

During PDF Generation activity, if page PDF representations are presented, they are merged into resulted PDF file and the PDF generation profile is ignored in this case. Otherwise, PDF generation uses the page images to create a new PDF. If some pages do not have PDF representations, image-based generated PDFs are used for such pages.

If "Merge page PDF data" is selected, the "Retain original PDF metadata" and "Delete page PDF data on success" options are enabled.

  8. To allow the metadata for the resulting PDF to be not overwritten by the settings specified in the Title, Author, Subject and Keywords fields at runtime, keep Retain original PDF metadata selected.
  9. To allow page PDF representations to be deleted at the end of PDF generation, keep Delete page PDF data on success selected.
  10. Configure partial completion of the activity. For more information see Partial completion.
  11. Save the process map.
