Configure an Image quality analysis activity

Use the following procedure to configure an Image quality analysis activity.

  1. Add an activity to the map.

By default, the Configuration tab is open in the properties panel of the activity.

  2. Change the default Name of the activity to something meaningful.
  3. On the Type list, select Capture > Image quality analysis.
  4. On the Input document/folder list, select a document or folder variable.
  5. Configure the following threshold settings.
Setting Range Sensitivity Associated error code
    Blur threshold sensitivity (Default: 10)

    0 to 100

    Sensitivity increases as value increases.

    106

    Blur threshold percentage (Default: 70)

    0 to 100

    Sensitivity decreases as value increases.

    106

Under saturation threshold sensitivity (Default: 18)

    0 to 100

    Sensitivity decreases as value increases.

    104

Under saturation threshold percentage (Default: 49)

    0 to 100

    Sensitivity decreases as value increases.

    104

Over saturation threshold sensitivity (Default: 10)

    0 to 100

    Sensitivity decreases as value increases.

    105

Over saturation threshold percentage (Default: 33)

    0 to 100

    Sensitivity decreases as value increases.

    105

When image analysis is complete, the results are placed on each page analyzed as text extensions. Refer to the following table for error code of the quality error condition, its description and the likely cause of the error.

Error code Error description Likely cause
    0 None No errors detected.
102 Image may be missing borders. The entire document cannot be seen in the image.
103 Image may have glare. Flash is being used or a bright point light source sits right above the location where the image was taken.
104 Image may be poorly lit. The image was taken in a dark room.
105 Image may be overly lit. The flash is on, or an extremely bright light sits directly above the location where the image was taken. A dirty lens can also cause some of the same "washout" as an overly lit image.
106 Image may be blurred. The user did not hold the camera steady.
107 Image may have shadows. Something is obstructing the direct light over a portion of the document.
108 Image may be overly skewed. The user is not holding their device parallel to the document they are capturing.
109 Image may have low contrast between the document and the background. The background of the document and the background of the surface on which the document sits are similar in color.
If more than one quality error conditions are detected as a result of image quality analysis, the error code corresponds to the first condition found, but all error conditions are included in the error description. For example, if both Overly lit and Glare error conditions are detected, the error code 105 (corresponds to Overly lit) is returned, but both Overly lit and Glare are included in the error description.

  6. Save the process map.
