Each log window will receive all log messages sent to the Server Monitor. You can selectively display messages in a window by applying a filter to that window. To do this, select the window and use one of the following:

Select Log > Edit filters… from the menu.

Click the Edit filters… button on the toolbar.

Right click in the window and select Edit filters… from the popup menu.

The filter dialog will now show:

You will have to name your filter. The filter name is also the name of the log window and will be displayed in the log window title bar.

Each filter consists of a set of rules. Existing rules are displayed in the upper part of the dialog. You can either use existing rules or create new ones. To configure your filter, select the rules you want to use (mark the rule and click the Select button, or double click on the rule). Selected rules will be displayed in the lower list.

A message will pass the filter (and be displayed in the log window) if any of the selected rules is true.

If you don’t want to use a rule any more, deselect it by marking it in the lower list and pressing the Deselect button, or by double clicking on it. The rule will not be used by the filter any more, but will remain available for further use.

If you want to delete a rule, select it in the available rules list and click Delete. This will only work if the rule isn’t currently used by any filters.

Editing rules

You can create new rules by clicking the New button, or edit existing rules by selecting them and pressing the Edit button. In both cases the rule dialog box will show:

Each rule shows the message fields available and lets you select them. A rule is true, if all the selected criteria in the rule dialog match. Only message fields where at least one item is selected will be considered.

The dialog above shows a rule for displaying database errors: only messages will pass, that have the severity of ‘critical’ or ‘error’ and a cause of ‘D’ or ‘Q’.

If you have autosave enabled, your rules and filters will be saved when you close the Server Monitor.
