Turning logging on and off

Logging information is always sent on a computer basis. You can’t turn logging on or off for a specific server, only for a specific computer the server runs on. If you want to control the amount of information a server generates, you should use the trace level.

Information sent from a computer will be displayed in all log windows, subject to filtering.

Select the computer you want to have a closer look at and pick Computer > Logging status from the menu. Selecting a server will have the same effect as selecting the computer it belongs to. Alternatively you can use the popup menu (by right clicking on an item) or click the Log button to start logging.

The Logging menu/button/popup is a toggle item. It will switch logging on, then off, if pressed again. The menu items will display if logging is on, by checking the box in the menu. In addition to that, the computer will have ‘[Log]’ appended to its name in the tree view while logging is on.

After you have turned logging on, all subsequent log lines generated on that computer will be sent to the monitor and displayed in the log window on the right. If you select another computer in the tree view, the log information for that computer will be displayed. Log information from other computers with logging enabled will continue to be received in the background and will be displayed if that computer will be selected.
