Historizing

Historizing makes it possible to represent past situations. With historizing, the data to be deleted are not physically removed from the database, but receive a valid until date. If the valid until field in the database contains an entry, you can determine whether the data record is considered at the time of the request.

By specifying a search date the customer / account will be reconstructed and displayed as seen on this day (past only).

Example for an active customer:

Customer no.:

0815

Name:

Asterix

Valid from:

20 July 1969
(date of first moon landing)

Valid until:

(no entry)

Example for a deleted customer:

Customer no.:

0816

Name:

Troubadix

Valid from:

20 July 1969

Valid until:

11 August 1999
(date of last solar eclipse)

This procedure is also used for data changes. If a data record is changed, the original data record is doubled in the database: a valid until entry is made to the first record and the new valid from entry is made to the second record.

Example for a customer with a name change:

Customer no.:

4711

Name:

Mustermann

Valid from:

20 July 1969

Valid until:

11 August 1999

Customer no.:

4711

Name:

Musterfrau

Valid from:

12 August 1999

Valid until:

(no entry)
