ControlSuite component high availability support

Equitrac

Equitrac supports Print Submission High Availability and Print Release High Availability.

Print submission high availability provides server level protection to the print server and print spooler. The high availability solution in Equitrac ensures that there is always a print queue available for end users. When a user submits a print request to the print queue, the request is intercepted by DRE, and DRE forwards to request onto CAS for validation. The validated print request is sent back to DRE, and the job is sent to the printer. In a highly available environment, the print request workflow is uninterrupted by having a redundant or backup DRE available in the event of a failure, and to distribute workload.

Print release high availability allows users to release jobs at the MFP even in the event of a failure between the MFP and DCE. The user can still release jobs at an MFP when DCE is unavailable.

See Equitrac print submission high availability for DRE and Equitrac print release high availability for configuration details.

Product Component HA Supported?
Equitrac CAS

No. Not supported behind a load balancer. Other services have offline capabilities and the system mostly works if CAS is offline for several days.

DCE, PJM, DRE, PJS Yes. All services installed on each node. Requires sticky sessions. DCE has failover capabilities.
DCS No.
DME Yes.
DWS No. DWS has failover capabilities.
SPE Not applicable. DCE can be configured to work with multiple SPEs, which provides high availability and load balancing.
Web Portal Yes. Requires sticky sessions.

Output Manager

Output Manager can be configured to run in a high availability environment that is scalable and reliable. As many physical back-end servers as necessary can be added to meet the performance demands of a growing network.

When configuring an environment for high availability, all the back-end Output Manager servers are configured to function as a single Output Manager server. A load balancer receives requests from the client devices and distributes the requests to the servers. The load balancer ensures uninterrupted service if a server fails.

A distributed high availability environment is similar, but the front-end server now includes the Output service and Rules Agent service, while the back-end server only requires the DBM service. The protocol for distributed high availability must be http or https instead of Net.Tcp.

See Output Manager in a high availability environment for configuration details.

Product Component HA Supported?
Output Manager Console Not applicable.
Core Not applicable.
DBM Yes.
Input Yes.
Output Yes.
PCE Not applicable.
Rules Agent Yes.

AutoStore

Product Component HA Supported?
AutoStore
  • AutoCapture
  • SMTP Capture
  • WebCapture

Yes. All of these components require sticky sessions.

MFP Capture:
  • HP Unified Client
  • Konica Minolta Unified Client
  • Xerox Unified Client
No, but do support DWS failover.
MFP Capture:
  • Brother Unified Client
  • Epson Unified Client
  • FX ECSP
  • Konica Minolta Combined Client
  • Ricoh Combined Client
  • SamsungWeb Unified Client
  • Toshiba Unified Client
  • Xerox ECSP
No, and do not support DWS failover.
MFP Capture:
  • Canon Unified Client
  • Konica Minolta OpenAPI
  • Lexmark Unified Client
  • Ricoh ESA
  • Ricoh Unified Client
  • Xerox EIP Connect
Yes: All require sticky sessions.
Non interactive (all remaining Capture components) No. No load balancing, but uses multiple identically configured AutoStore nodes reading input from the same source.
WJS Not applicable. Uses SecFW high availability capabilities.

Business Connect

We recommend to use a shared database instance, one instance for all Business Connect HA nodes Automatic re-login will handle the failover scenario.

Product Component HA Supported?
Business Connect DM Yes. Requires use of an IP-based load balancer (not application or cookie-based load balancer) and Business Connect needs to be configured correctly (see the new Knowledge Base for details)

Client

Product Component HA Supported?
Client DWS/DRS Not applicable. DWS has failover capabilities, No clients talk to DRS other than Konica Minolta Combined Client, so there is mostly no need for a load balancer.

Core Services

Not applicable. SFS had high availability and load balancing capabilities.

Product Component HA Supported?
Core Services Security Framework Yes, SFS has high availability and load balancing capabilities by adding >1 Security Framework node.
License Server No.
