Bulk Device Install Using Web Jetadmin

Before you can run a bulk install, you must first add the applicable devices to HP Web Jetadmin.

To add devices, do the following:

  1. Open HP Web Jetadmin.
  2. If you are launching Web Jetadmin for the first time, a Run Discovery popup displays a message that no devices are in the system. Click Yes to run a discovery to find devices.

    If you are opening an existing session, select Tools > Device Discovery to find additional devices.
  3. In the Device Discovery dialog box, select Specify settings > Network connected devices, and specify a device discovery option, and then click Next to continue.
    • SLP multicast – An SLP multicast request is sent out on the network to evoke a response from devices connected to HP Jetdirect print servers.

    • IP broadcast – An SNMP broadcast is sent to the specified Broadcast address. SNMP Devices respond.

    • IP range – Searches for devices within a range of IP addresses.

    • Specified addresses – You can add address lists of known devices to HP Web Jetadmin 10.2 to query only specific end nodes.

    • Active Directory – Queries Microsoft Active Directory (AD) using an AD starting point such as domain, organization units (OUs), or other AD containers.

    • WS-Discovery – A Web Services request is sent out on the network to evoke a response from network-connected devices that support the Web Services protocol.

  4. Follow the instructions for the selected discovery method, and click Done when finished.
    The discovered devices are added to the All Devices list.
    You can also use Quick Device Discovery if you are searching for only one device and do not want to run discovery on the entire network. When you enter the IP address or hostname and select Go, this feature searches device addresses in the HP Web Jetadmin database first and then performs a network search. If a device is found it is added to the All Devices list.
