Upgrading Device Registration Service for a remote database

This procedure describes how to upgrade the Device Registration Service software when a remote database is used.

Complete the following:

  1. Open Device Registration System Configuration.
  2. Stop the DRS service.
  3. Copy your existing plugin folders to a temporary location:
    1. Go to C:\Program Files x86\Kofax\Device Registration Service\ Service\Plugins.
    2. Find the folders with the name NSi.DeviceManagement.Plugins.xxx.
    3. Copy these folders to the temporary location.
  4. Uninstall your existing version of DRS.
  5. Install the latest DRS version as described in Device Registration Service installation overview.
    Do not start DRS. You must restart your system for changes to Microsoft SQL Server to take effect. When prompted, you can click Yes to restart immediately or No to restart manually later.
  6. Copy the plugin folders from the temporary folder to C:\Program Files\Kofax\Device Registration Service\Service\Plugins.
  7. Open Device Registration System Configuration.
  8. Clear Enable Local DB.
  9. Click Properties.
  10. Enter the database information and click Test Connection to ensure the connection is successful.
  11. Click OK.
  12. Start the DRS Upgrade tool and ensure Enable Local DB is cleared.
  13. Click Properties to ensure the database information is available and click OK.
  14. Click Run.
  15. Start the DRS service.
  16. Browse to the DRS web page and verify that all devices, applications, and files are still present.
